PLATELETS:
Megakaryoblast
Promegakaryocyte
Megakaryocyte (Mega K)
- The cytoplasm stains blue-to-pink and is abundant
- There are a few to many reddish-blue granules present
- The size of the cell varies according to the number of nuclear lobes present, but average from 20-90 micrometers
- There are 2-16 lobes, but 8 lobes is average
- There is a variable N/C ratio
- Reference:
- Bone Marrow: 1-2/50x objective; 5-10/10x objective
- Peripheral Blood: 0%
- Are commonly reported as "adequate", "increased" or "decreased"
Thrombocytes (Mature Platelets)
- Cytoplasm stains light blue to colorless with red-to-violet granules
- There is no nucleus
- There is no N/C ratio
- The size ranges from 2-4 micrometers
- Reference:
- Bone Marrow: NA
- Peripheral Blood: 7-25/100x oil immersion field
